New Age: Past Lives

How many times have you gone into a relationship with someone knowing that destiny or karma had somehow brought you together? Have you ever felt you had been together with somebody before, perhaps in another lifetime?

But then again, how many other times have you strenuously believed that you and your partner were meant for each other but usually ended up changing your mind after the first argument?

Finding the capacity and method to pinpoint whether a relationship has been repeated in the past or not can be difficult, yet fun once you get the hang of it. Unlike what most think, no one comes into your life with a label that states “Past Life Ex” or tells you “We have had a relationship before, but not in this life”. It is uncanny how so many people, mainly affected by the New Age movement, seem to find karmic ties in almost everything, misinterpreting wannabe idealisms as real spiritual relationships. In order to avoid such mistakes and misinterpretations, one must remain as objective and unaffected as possible.

Here are some mistakes we make when believing that our relationship may in fact be a past-life relationship:

Mistake #1: Believing a Past Life Relationship Equals to Mr or Mrs Perfect

There is no cosmic rule by which relationships of past lives adhere by. They could be as good as they can be bad. Maybe you indeed are in a relationship with someone you were with in a past life, but perhaps that past relationship didn’t work out for you, so you’re attempting it again and again until you get it right.

Do not fall for the hype that every past life relationship is a perfectly, romantic-beyond-time, ideal relationship!

Mistake #2: Confusing Past Life Ties with Karma

Karma dictates what punishment or award finds us on our soul’s ascending journey. Past lives are merely past experiences with effects on the eternal “Now”. An ex that you lost in 1202 who finds you in 2012 does not necessarily mean that you or him/her are fulfilling karma.

It only verifies your soul ties. Perhaps you simply made a pledge to meet each other again or are so spiritually affiliated that your souls can’t live in a world or time line where the other doesn’t. Again, this is not “karma” or “destiny”.

So how do you actually ascertain that the person beside you is in fact someone you knew and were close to in a past life? Here are some signs that indicate such a relationship:

1)      Common Knowledge. You and your partner share common knowledge that doesn’t stem from any tangible source (books etc). This knowledge can be associated with a specific era in time.

2)      Common Memories. You and your partner seem to get flashbacks of similar places, people and experiences or have a gut feeling of something you had both experienced.

3)      Knowing Before the Relationship. Either you or your partner (or both) has seen, dreamt of or sensed the other’s presence before the other actually appeared into their lives.

4)      Spiritual AlignmentAlthough this is not to be confused with the connection between soul mates, a spiritual alignment between you and your partner that feels very familiar is usually a sign of a past life relationship.

5)      Unfinished Business. The sense of having “unfinished business” with your partner would definitely indicate a past life relationship. The eagerness and feeling of getting back together, the sense of him/her being part of your mission and the relief that derives from finally having that person in your life is what verifies your past life ties to them.

On the whole, a past life relationship will most likely find you in your current “Now” no matter what you do. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will adapt to the same form. A husband in a previous lifetime may end up being a father in the next. A servant in a previous lifetime may end up being a lover, a sister, even a mother in the life to follow. Whatever role the soul decides to depict in each lifetime is chosen with precision by the soul itself, as is its entire journey.

New Age: Are You Psyched?

What is a Psychic Medium?

A psychic medium (often called just “medium”) is a person who is said to be able to communicate with spirits or the energy of those who have passed on.  There are several ways a Medium communicates with the energy from those who have passed on, including using a trance, Extra Sensory Perception (ESP) or by using objects that “focus” the communication such as crystal balls or other items.

Psychic Mediums Who Use A Trance

Some Mediums go into a trance to form a connection between the energy and their own mind and body.  The trance state is apparently a method of better “hearing” or tuning in to the energy.  A trance is a state in which the Medium tunes out the physical world in order to better tune in to the spiritual energy around us.

Mediums who use trances are said to open their minds to allow the spiritual energy to temporarily enter their body.  Often, Mediums who communicate using trances use rituals or special ceremonies to enter the trance. Many cultures throughout the world have used rituals or ceremonies to initiate trances for hundreds or thousands of years.

Psychic Mediums Who Use Extra Sensory Perception

There are Mediums who do not go into a trance or otherwise tune out the physical world to communicate with the energy from those who have passed.  These mediums use extra sensory perception, or ESP, to connect with the spiritual energy around them.  As with other forms of perception, like vision, these psychics usually rely on sensing the energy around them or around other people or places.

Psychic Mediums Who Use Objects

By using objects such as cards, crystals or other items, some Mediums are able to focus or tune-in to the energy around them.  These Mediums often rely on objects to help them, but will explain that it is not the object itself that has the energy.  The objects these Mediums use do not have any ability to sense or “read” the energy flowing through them either, it is the Mediums that do this.

What Is A Psychic Reading?

According to Wikipedia, “A psychic reading is an attempt to foretell the future of an individual or group.” However, this is not 100% correct.  Although many psychic readings are often used to tell people about possible future events and how that may impact their lives, there are other types of psychic readings.

For example, some psychic readings are actually attempts to examine and interpret the psychic energy around someone.  Other psychic readings tap into the energy around a person to understand their past.  Perhaps a better definition of a psychic reading is to say it’s an attempt by a psychic to read and interpret psychic energy and to explain how that energy might impact, or have impacted, a person.

Types Of Psychic Readings

There are many types, methods and systems of psychic or extra-sensory readings employed by those who claim to have psychic abilities.  A professional psychic may have one or more specialized areas of expertise such as psychometrydistant readingsTarot readingastrology or horoscope readingsnumerologypalm readingpast-life readingsaura readings or any number of other methods.

Psychic readings include face-to-face readings such as in-person readings at home, psychic party readings for a group, and the less detailed and shorter psychic fair readings. Distant readings include internet readings, phone readings and mail readings. In some rare cases, a method of psychic sensing known as remote viewing is used.

Psychic Energy

Psychics are often considered fakes because there is little or no scientific proof that psychic energy is real.  Although it’s true there are fake Psychics, it’s not true that just because you can’t see, touch, taste or smell psychic energy, psychic energy does not exist.  It’s also true that not all Psychic’s are fakes.

Definition Of Psychic Energy

For this discussion, let’s assume that psychic energy is the energy that Psychic’s are able to somehow tap into, sense or otherwise connect with.  It’s an energy that exists outside the known physical energies such as light or electricity.  Psychic energy and the five senses test:

If you can’t touch, taste, smell, hear or see psychic energy, then it must not exist, right?  First, let’s examine oxygen using our five senses test:  Oxygen in its gaseous state in our atmosphere is essential to life.  Without the oxygen in our air, you and I and almost all life we know would not be present.

Yet it is colorless, you can’t see it even though it is all around you.  You can’t hear oxygen.  Oxygen is also odorless, you can’t smell oxygen in the air around you.  Oxygen is tasteless, and of course you cannot feel oxygen in its gaseous state.  Amazing considering oxygen is present in the air, water and earth.

Now let’s examine psychic energy using the same five senses test:  Psychic energy is colorless, you can’t see psychic energy.  You can’t hear psychic energy.  Likewise, psychic energy is odorless, you can’t smell psychic energy.  Psychic energy has no taste and of course you can’t touch psychic energy.  According to this test, psychic energy must not exist.  Because our senses cannot experience psychic energy, we assume there is no psychic energy.

Of course, by the same law we must also accept that there is no oxygen, even though we know there is!  Put another way, if there is oxygen even though our five senses cannot experience it, then doesn’t it make sense that there could also be psychic energy, even though our five senses cannot experience it?

Psychics Can Sense Psychic Energy

How do psychics sense psychic energy? That is not clear, but true psychics have the ability to somehow sense an energy that science does not yet understand.  We know this from the many examples of psychics who have helped police solve murders, the psychics who are able to connect with our family and friends that have passed on, and the psychics that know facts about us even though they never met us before.  Just because science has not yet understood and defined psychic energy does not mean psychic energy does not exist.

Wellness: Clearing Negativity

These are the ultimate precious gifts of meditation, yet people are initially drawn to meditation for many different reasons. Some begin meditating because of a doctor’s recommendation, seeking the health benefits of lowered blood pressure, stress reduction, and restful sleep. Others come to meditation seeking relief from the fearful, angry, or painful thoughts that constantly flood their mind. Still others come to meditation to find greater self-understanding, to increase their intuitive powers, or to improve their ability to concentrate.

It is accurate to say that the purpose of meditation depends on the meditator – but it is also true that anyone who meditates regularly receives profound benefits on all of these levels – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

Wellness: Yoga

The word yoga means “union” in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India where yoga originated. We can think of the union occurring between the mind, body and spirit.  What is commonly referred to as “yoga” can be more accurately described by the Sanskrit word asana, which refers to the practice of physical postures or poses.

Asana is only one of the eight “limbs” of yoga, the majority of which are more concerned with mental and spiritual well-being than physical activity. In the West, however, the words asana and yoga are often used interchangeably.

Yoga Poses

Many people think that yoga is just stretching. But while stretching is certainly involved, yoga is really about creating balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility. This is done through the performance of poses or postures, each of which has specific physical benefits. The poses can be done quickly in succession, creating heat in the body through movement (vinyasa-style yoga) or more slowly to increase stamina and perfect the alignment of the pose. The poses are a constant, but the approach to them varies depending on the tradition in which the teacher has trained.

Yoga Practice

Yoga teachers will often refer to “your practice,” which means your individual experience with yoga as it develops over time. The amazing thing about yoga is that your practice is always evolving and changing, so it never gets boring. Although the poses themselves do not change, your relationship to them will. Anyone can start a yoga practice, even if you don’t feel like you are very flexible or very strong. These things will improve the longer you practice. Another great thing about thinking about “your practice” is that it encourages the uncompetitive spirit of yoga. One of the most difficult, but ultimately most liberating things about yoga is letting go of the ego and accepting that no one is better than anyone else. Everyone is just doing their best on any given day.

Yoga Classes

In addition to practicing the poses, yoga classes may also include instruction on breathing, call and response chanting, meditation, or an inspirational reading by the teacher. The variety and amount of this will depend on the individual teacher and the yoga style in which he or she is trained. Typically, a yoga class at a gym will be more focused on the purely physical benefits of yoga, while one at a yoga center may delve more into the spiritual side. Some people find that the physical practice of yoga becomes a gateway into a spiritual exploration, while others just enjoy a wonderful low-impact workout that makes them feel great. Whatever your tendency, you will be able to find a yoga class that suits your style.
